Rachel Levine: The First Transgender Woman Federal Official

Earlier this year, President Joe Biden nominated Dr. Rachel Levine to serve as the assistant health secretary of the HHS. Levine has served the state of Pennsylvania with her expertise since 2015, specializing in the opioid crisis, medical marijuana and adolescent and LGBTQ medi- cine. If confirmed, Levine will be the first openly-transgender woman tobeafederalicer.
